can't delete 4 DLL files

Hello,

I tried to uninstall Adobe Acrobat Reader 7 but I couldn't do it
so I went to the folder location and started deleting it folder by folder
and when I got to this folder called ActiveX with 4 DLL's in it called
(AcroIEHelper.dll AcroPDF.dll GbDetect.dll pdfshell.dll) so I dragged them
to the desktop and tried to delete them again with no luck.

Any help would be great, Thank you all much.

I have been experiencing problems with an application that uses MS office (especially Access) for underlying database work on my XP Pro machine since last spring. The developer says the problem relates to a bad MSVCRT.dll file needed to handle their program’s C++ code, and a simple re-registering / removing excess copies should take care of the problem running regsvr32.exe .... but that results in an error message “msvcrt.dll was loaded but the DLLRegisterServer entry point was not found. The file can not be registerted.”

After checking an old Fred Langa article in WS about another user’s problem (with a different *.dll file) he seems to make a generalized statement that to fix this problem e.g., Use a search tool to scour your system for any instances of dllfile.dll. Normally, you should have only one copy in the WindowsSystem32 folder. Delete or rename any other copies (for example, as dllfile32.old or .bak). Check each copy’s properties, such as version number and creation date, etc.

This is similar advice I was given my the application developer but when I do this I find multiple copies in different windows directories (besides system32, e.g., windowssystem32dllcache and also copies in the reinstalled cprogram filesjavajre6bin directory and also in the program files for the nero7 cd program.

What I first thought was the problem is that when checking the properties for msvcrt.dll file in the main system32 directory (c:windowssystem32) it is described as “Windows NT CRT DLL” (File version 7.0.2600.5512 ) vs. the version and description for the msvcrt.dll file in the recently re-installed java directory cprogram filesjavajre6bin directory is seemingly correctly called “Miscrosoft ® C Runtime Library” (version 6.0.8337.0) leading my amateur mind to think the dll file in the java directory is the correct one. This msvcrt.dll file also seems to be the same or similar to the v6.0.8797.0 found in the C+++ runtime components file discussed here : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/259403

But when I do rename the file e.g. msvcrt.old -- a new copy is automatically created that is identical to the one renamed, and if I try copying the hopefully correct one from the java directory, it the file in the system32 directory automatically is changed back to the previous version. Could this be related to a file called msvcr40.dll file that has as its description “VC 4.x CRT DLL (Forwarded to msvcrt.dll)” and btw has the same date as the troubled msvcrt.dll file? Also in the system32 direcotry there is a file called msvcr20.dll dated 2001 that shows the same name as what it seems it should be, ie “MS C Runtime Library”

Sorry for the long post but since I am not really technically qualified to be digging around the windows/system32 directory, I don’t know how else to explain the problem and what I have tried ... thanks in advance for any thoughts or ideas.

TGH

Ps – I also found this this article on “how to fix msvcrt.dll errors” ( http://www.instant-registry-fixes.or...crtdll-errors/ ) and wondering if this is a reputable site and accurate information? My main concern is that since I did a complete reinstall of my XP Pro system this summer and the problem msvcrt.dll problem persists, I would just wind up copying from the XP Pro install disk the same file I have now. Then again, when I did a complete reinstall a year ago due to a virus episode, everything worked fine (until last May).

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%LogsCBSCBS.log >%userprofile%Desktopsfcdetails.txt

You can open an administrative command prompt, copy this command and paste it into the command window using the right click option, and it will create the SFCdetails.txt on your desktop.

The link shows how to look for the problem files so you can try to replace them. I do have the file you mention on my system.

How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7

I will look at your CBS.log to see what files may be involved.

Hello,

For days now, I've been looking to solve an issue I'm having regarding the permission settings. It's driving me bonkers ! For whatever reason I simply cannot move a specific dll file, I then get the following message : "you require permissions from Everyone to make changes to this file" ==> it says "make changes" although all I want to do is copy and paste the dll file elsewhere...

So far, I've tried running the takeownership program, I've ran Registry Booster (who knows?), of course my user account settings are on "never notify me" AND YET I just can't copy/paste this dll file.

I've got all the latest Win7 (64-bit) updates, AVG 9 AV+firewall (which I even turned off), I'm running an AMD Phenom II x4 3.00 Ghz, 4,00 GB RAM...and that's about it I guess.

I've googled this issue to death but haven't found any practical solutions. Can anyone please help?

After removing an ATI video board from my computer (XP sp3), I uninstalled all the ATI software. However, there were nine ATI .dll and .ax files (e.g. ati3duag.dll & ativmvxx.ax) which remained in the WindowsSystem32 folder which I have tried to remove without success.

I even created a BAT file to delete them from the dllcache folder and then from the System32 folder within about a half second, but they keep coming back about 10 seconds later. I checked the registry, and they are not registered. I have researched "removing dll files from system32" on Google and have not found anything useful.

I know I could just let them sit there, but I don't like leaving trash around. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to permanently remove these files?

I recently installed on my daughter's computer ,a new mail program called Foxmail. The program works fine but there seems to be some conflict with Office97.
The computer is Patium iv 2.4, Win98.
Since I have installed this program, I can't open a word document. The problem lies in a file called foxmail.dot that is sitting in the startup folder of microsoft office.
Microsoft Office>Office>startup>foxmail.dot
It will not delete.. I get a message that it may be corrupt /or disk is full.
Can't re-install Office as it can't find winword.exe... maybe it is being used by another program.
I also deleted the new mail program... still can't delete the ---dot--- file.
Any suggestions where to go from here?

I am trying to clean up a laptop to reissue it and can not delete four temp internet files. I have tried from within Internet Explorer to delete the files, from the actual folder where the files are located. I have tried to delete the files in safe mode.

I tried in a command window using various commands from DEL, ERASE, RD, RMDIR, RENAME; both in Windows and in Safe Mode... nothing.

I have tried to rename, check the properties but the properties window will not display. The file is seen in the command window. One of the files is named:

exercise-bikes_Sporting-Goods_W0QQcatrefZC6QQcoactionZcompareQQcoentrypage ZsearchQQcopagenumZ1QQfromZR2QQsacategoryZ382QQsor ecordstoskipZ50QQsosortorderZ2QQsosortpropert[1]

This is making me nuts. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

How does one go about upgrading or installing a newer version of the oleaut32.dll file in the Windows / System folder. When I attempt to drag & drop a new version I get an error message that Windows is using the file. Attempts to rename and delete the old file met with the same result. The system is an old Windows 95b installation that was upgraded to Windows 98. The file version on the machine now is Microsoft OLE 2.20 File Version 2.20.4122. The version that the program I am trying to get to work is Microsoft OLE 2.40 File Version 2.40.4277. All attempts to run the program, LPJ SlideShow, bring the error message that the oleaut32.dll file is out of date and that the program requires a newer version to operate.
Any insight would be appreciated.

Chkdsk deleted all my files.

COmputer: Toshiba Satellite 4GB ram
OS: Vista Ultimate

I have a 1 month old 0.5TB USB external drive that I use to backup all my data, work, personal stuff, etc - 10 years of my life.

I am running vista ultimate.

WHen vista starts and the usb is plugged in it usually asks if you would like to check for consistency and gives you about 10 seconds to cancel the check (by pressing any key). I was walking towards the computer but was too late and windows went ahead and checked for consistency.

The log file for the check is below ( NoMorePasting.com )

WHen vista started I went to the USB drive and saw that it was empty and that I had 0.5TB free space.

10 years of my life -- how do I get my files back?

I cannot delete these folders:
Program Files, Program Files(x86), ProgramData, Windows.

I get this error msg when I try to delete the above:
"You need permission to perform this action.

You require permission from TrustedInstaller to make changes to this folder"

Also I cannot delete any protected operating system files/folders, it says I need permission from the administrator. I am the administrator and there are no other user accounts on my computer.

I received purchased a copy of Windows 7 via a student discount through journeyed.com and received it today (despite it being days before the official release date). i popped the disc into my computer, did the Upgrade Adviser, but once I clicked on "Install Now" and error dialog said i was missing DU.DLL and WinSetup.dll files. upon further investigation, i found the two files hidden deep within the "sources" folder and all lowercased. I tried renaming them as to match the case in the error dialogs but it wouldn't let me. any advice?

Cannot delete a large file (566 Mb).

I cannot delete d (without extension) file from C:Windows. I tried many
different ways:

from under Boot Disk;

from under BartPE CD;

by special utilities.

My Explorer context menu has the Delete file on the next boot position now
for all other files, except the d file.

My system shows it by the dir command, but gives File Not Found on the del
command.

Can somebody help me?

Thanks in advance

Hello to all. I'm hoping you can help me with a weird problem: Access is removing our Redemption dll.

One of our Access programmers references the Redemption dll in his code. He uses Redemption objects to send out emails to our users.

But often, we find that after running (or sometimes after just opening) his code, the Redemption dll has been deleted from the client workstation.

We download and register the dll on the client workstation, run the Access program, and again, the dll has vanished.

The code doesn't contain any statements to delete the dll.

Has anyone seen this before? Any suggestions on what might be causing it?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,

Bob
