Operation Failed with error 0x000003eb.

Hello All,

I hope this is the correct forum for this question. I have a Win7 64 bit machine that when I try to install any shared HP printer from our print server using the a UNC link, the hostname, or the IP address throuhg a Standard TCP/IP port crashes after installing the driver with the error "Windows cannot connect to the printer." Operation failed with error 0x000003eb. I have looked on the web and tried everything that I could think of to solve this issue such as removed all the drivers, ports, etc. and these printers just will not install.

Has anyone had any experience solving this type of error?

Thank you,
Ron

Dear Gurus, I have this error message occur when I trying to mapping network printer for second times. For 1st time, I can map the network printer with no error but once I remove the network printer and reconnect back the same network printer, the error message "Operation failed with error 0x0000000d" occur. FYI, I'm using windows 7 Professional 64bit. Anyone of you had come across this problem before. Kindly share your experiences and solutions here. Thanks!

I am using a Windows 7 machine, and I am trying to follow the C++ example posted here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa363201(v=VS.85).aspx and I keep entering this if statement
fSuccess = GetCommState(hCom, &dcb);

if (!fSuccess)
{
// Handle the error.
printf ("GetCommState failed with error %d.n", GetLastError());
return (2);
}

And GetLastError returns 1, which I think means ERROR_INVALID_FUNCTION. What does that mean and how do I fix it?

So far everything was great till we got to the network printers on the full released of Windows 7 Enterprise. When the script runs at login it gets a 1722 error and won't add the printers. When I try to manually add the printer I am getting a Operation failed with error 0x000000002 and then it just won't add it. Works fine on Vista and XP boxes.

Anyone figure a way around this yet?

I think Windows 7 is the important element in this, although several components are involved.

We have 2 PCs both running Windows 7 with a homegroup defined. We have an HP laserjet 1022 that we wish to share (and also a couple of other printers on my wife's PC).
My PC runs 64 bit Win 7; my wife's runs the 32 bit version.

Initially the HP LJ 1022 was on my PC and has run there for several weeks under Windows 7. Then I set up the homegroup and connected both PCs. .
On my wife's PC on the homegroup control panel page there appeared a notification that "a new shared printer" was available and inviting me to click on the button to install it. When I did so, nothing happened. Reboot, etc, still nothing.

On my PC a similar message appeared, presumably inviting me to connect to a printer on the other PC; again, no response to the install printer button. I am aware of the need to have the correct 64 or 32 bit drivers on each PC, but I am not getting as far as an invitation to select a driver.

Before trying the homegroup, I had in fact set up drivers for the LJ1022 on my PC (64 bit version) and on my wife's PC (32 bit version). That was fine for me, but erratic for her, as the network connection seemed to have mind of it's own. I also had a struggle getting an updated Intel driver for the Intel Pro1000GT to install in place of the Windows driver, as I though that might be part of the problem. Having fixed, I think and hope, the network connection, I thought let's try a homegroup. But as you see that is not yet the answer.

So now I am trying another option. I can connect this HP 1022 to a USB socket on a shared NAS box (a Netgear ReadyNAS NVS) and this would have the advantage of enabling either of us to use the printer regardless of the state of the other half's PC.. ( The NAS has been working fine for backup etc from both PCs for several weeks.)
That worked fine for my wife's 32 bit PC; the printer is defined and she can use it. Fine for her, but not so far for me. The printer is visible in a Windows Explorer folder for the NAS on my PC, but it won't install. I get a message "Wndows cannot connect to the printer, operation failed with error code 0x0000000d".when I try to install it.

What have I managed to get screwed up in all this?

I've been having a series of problems with my Archive folder since upgrading from OL 2000 to 2003. First, my archive operations would fail, complaining that the archive files was a non-Unicode file. I used Upstart (http://www.maclean.com/upstart/index.html) to convert both my main .PST and Archive to Unicode files. I'm not sure whether that's fixed the problem -- my Deleted items are being archived properly now, but not my Sent items.

However, I'm having another problem: when I click Properties/Advanced to try to compact the Archive folder, I get the error "Operation Failed. An object could not be found." I've searched microsoft.com and this forum for this error, but none of the situations described are the same. I was having the same problem with my main .PST file. Detect and Repair fixed that one, but not the Archive folder

I also noticed that in Tools/Options/Mail Setup/Data Files only my main PST file shows up, whereas the Archive folder used to be listed as well. I tried adding the Archive, but that causes Outlook to abort.

Any ideas? Can I just create a new archive and copy the old messages into it?

I have a custom form (based on the email form) that holds attachments. When trying to open *some* of the attachments I get the error "The operation failed". This only happens with some attachments and more often than not these are MS Office 2000 documents. Can anyone shine any light on what causes this and how to cure it?
Thanks in advance.

Hi, I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate on a Lenovo computer, 8 mb RAM, Q8200 CPU. Recently I started getting notifications that my backup failed because the system cannot find the file specified, and the above error code. I'm not specifying any files, and I've reset backup to its default settings, all to no avail. I'm backing up to an external USB hard drive. In fact I bought a new one because I thought the old one was too small. Same problem.

I've already looked at the MS knowledgebase and downloaded and installed the update that they recommend there, to no avail. Any other ideas?

I have an HP Pavilion dv6-2157sb running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1, 64-bit OS. I bought it in the summer of 2010 for law school.

The laptop has served me faithfully through law school.

After almost three years, however, it began booting up with the time being incorrect.

Commonly, the time stamp would be 1/1/2009. At other times, 12/31/2008. Still at other times, 5/1/2013, and finally random dates between 2022 and 2023.

I did some preliminary research and decided that the BIOS battery must have an issue, and with the help of my uncle who does IT work for JP Morgan Chase, replaced the battery. Upon doing so, we also went into the BIOS settings and changed the date & time accordingly.

This did not help.

My "temporary fix" for this has been to connect to the internet, click the date & time, click Change date & time settings, click the Internet Time tab, click Change Settings, click Update now, and the date & time would adjust according to the internet time.

There have been instances where closing the monitor lid and putting it to sleep would not cause the time to change when opening the lid and waking the computer up. Upon shut down and start up / rebooting in general, the time & date invariably changes. Once in a while, putting it to sleep and waking it will nevertheless cause the time and date to change, albeit less frequently. Finally, every so often, I'd say once every two weeks, the date & time will change sporadically while the computer is on.

At the same time that this issue cropped up, several other things began going haywire; namely,

(a) The icons on the bottom right in the task bar next to the date & time would load very awkwardly, with lots of gaps & spaces in between them, and if one of the blank spaces were the wifi/ethernet settings, the internet would not work. My "temporary" fix for this has been to go to Task Manager, end the explorer.exe process, hit file > new task (run...) > type in explorer.exe > hit enter and upon restarting explorer, all the system tray icons look fine and operate normally.

(b) more importantly, Windows Update has suffered as a result of this. I noticed on my Windows 7 PC (DELL Optiplex 745) that my Internet Explorer version is v9.0.15. Here, it's 9.0.14. There's a 57.8 MB update titled Windows Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems. No KB number for it, but always fails with error code 9C48. Even where it somehow is "successful," when I just shut down and it attempts to install during shut down, the update comes back up. I've done extensive research on this problem and found a great thread in the w7 forums here with lots of proposed solutions; absolutely none worked. When I tried installing Internet Explorer 9 as a standalone exe without using Windows Update, Windows informed me via a dialog box that the version of IE I have is newer than the one I am trying to install. After giving up and hiding that update, I yesterday attempted to install Internet Explorer 10. The installation took a long time, but after about an hour, it said it was complete, and asked me to Restart. Upon restarting, Windows gave me an error claiming that it failed to configure windows update and is reverting changes now. This is what happened before with other windows updates related to internet explorer.

Please help. Are the two issues related somehow? What should I do?

Kindly let me know whether you need any more information; I would be glad to provide it for you.

Best regards,
Emanuel.

When I click on the send/receive button, it says "operation failed." I loaded Office XP Pro yesterday on my new computer and it worked fine until later this morning when this error window started appearing. I can still create an email and send it.

Every so often I get the error message "The requested operation failed" when sending an email to Elizabeth. She is part of a list, but all others go through. I get the message even when I try to email her individually. Some days it works, others it does not. It may depend on the phase of the moon, or what I ate for breakfast. Hello,

I am using Windows 7 Enterprise OS (32 bit). I have an mfc application which uses SetLayeredWindowAttribute() api to display fading effect for a window. The window to be displayed is popup window created with attributes WS_EX_TOOLWINDOW | WS_EX_LAYERED and parent NULL. The problem is when I switch from Aero theme to windows basic theme, SetLayeredWindowAttribute() fails with error code 317. When I again switch back to Aero, the application works fine. This happens only when I restart the system and switch from aero to basic theme.

I have checked if changing theme to basic removes WS_EX_LAYERED attributes of all windows, but the attribute is still present.
How to solve this problem?

Thanks & Regards,
Amrapali.
