I accidentaly tripped over my laptop cord while booting. The computer was not harmed, but the adapter unpluged from the laptop and the laptop lost power while booting.

Timeline of events:
1) I tripped over the cord
2) laptop lost power while booting up
3) I pluged the laptop back in
4) I pushed the power button
5) Windows said it was loading...and then restarted its self while loading windows (it kept doing this in a loop)
6) I manually restarted my laptop
7) Windows said it was loading...and then restarted its self while loading windows (it kept doing this in a loop)
8) I exited the loop by pressing F1 before the windows loading screen
9) This took me to a screen where I could either choose which operating system I wanted to boot from, or press F8 for advanced options
10) I pressed F8
11) This took me to a screen with many options (repair windows 7, safe mode, debugging mode, boot with last known good configuration)
12) I booted with last known good configuration
13) This time windows loaded me to a black screen where I could see my mouse, but nothing else
14) I restart my computer again and navigate back to the advanced boot options screen
15) I choose, "repair windows 7"
16) windows 7 repair loads
17) I login to windows 7 repair
18) I am given options, (startup repair, system restore, command prompt, system recovery image, memory check)
19) I never made a system restore point, never made a system recovery image, and my windows 7 DVD which I bought over a year ago is now missing, so I choose "startup repaid"
20) Startup repair runs for 5 hours till it finds an error and tell me it needs to restart to fix it
21) My computer restarts, and windows 7 loads...taking me again to a black screen where I can see my mouse but nothing else
22) I restart my computer and re-navigate back to "startup repair"
23) Again I run startup repair
24) Startup repair runs for 2 hours till it tells me that noting can be found wrong and it sends a messgae to microsoft, and tell me to restart my computer
25) So, I restart my computer
26) My computer restarts, and windows 7 loads...taking me again to a black screen where I can see my mouse but nothing else
27) I restart my computer and re-navigate back to "startup repair"
28) Again I run startup repair
29) Startup repair runs for 2 min till it tells me that it is finished and can find nothing wrong (I try this several times with the same results)

What should I do?

The last time my computer was having this problem (same cause), it autostarted a disk check after restarting a few times, and that fixed it..., but I have no idea how to make it do one of those...(it just sort of happened on its own last time)

I already tried taking my computer in to tech support...and they told me that there was nothing I could do without buying an enitre new windows 7 DVD from them. I am kind of hoping that I do not have to do that though...because they are expensive as hell...and Christmas sort of has me tight on funds at the moment. I am, using a public hotel computer, asking for help from the Internetz. :-$

I recieve a PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FAILURE. I am experienced in computer truobleshooting with the exception of Blue Screens. Thus, this is my first post in ANY windows troubleshooting forum. I am looking for ANY help so please read all of this since I don't really know what information is critical so I am getting detailed.

I was trying to get Halo 2 for Vista to work on Windows 7 x64 Ult custom build (By trying the following: Halo 2 Windows 7 (workaround) - "System Cannot Find the Path Specified" or "LIVE gaming on Windows failed to initialize" - Games for Windows Live ).
I also unistalled an unrecognized USB driver from device manager.
After that failed to fix my Halo 2 problem I updated my GPU card driver and rebooted my PC.


After "Starting Windows" screen appears for roughly ten seconds a "PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FAILURE" BS appears. The computer reboots (after about 1.5 seconds) after the Memory Dump reaches 100. I do not get any option to boot into safemode or with "Last known working configuration" but I DO get the options to either start the start-up repair or reboot windows normally.

If I reboot normally the problem repeats, trapping me in a boot loop. So I launch start-up repair.

I tried "Startup Repair" as well as System Restore (I tried ALL of my restore points) but get an error telling me "Windows cannot repair this computer automattically" or "System restore was not successful", respectivaly. I can then choose to send information about this problem or not but I get no further troubleshooting options.

FORTUNATLY, I was able to boot to desktop AFTER using the command prompt to xcopy a "bootcat.cache" file from my HP Laptop (Also running 7 x64 Ult.) into my build's system32CodeIntegrity folder in:
- C: (The DISKPART > "list volume" command says this is a 100MB system reserve partition of my main HDD)
- D: (actual 931GB partition of my main HDD that is my Local Disk [I do not know why it is D: and not C: but before this it was E: and my CD-ROM drive was D: so it gets reassigned each time I reboot. [I have even tried the DISKPART > "assign letter=C" command to reassign letter C to this drive but it doesn't seem to help or hurt anything since my Local disk was not C in startup repair but is back to C: now that i have booted]). And
- X: (I do not know what this is but it was the default drive when I entered the command prompt [I believe the default was X:sources or something like that]). I exit command prompt and reboot.


Then and ONLY then will the computer boot to my desktop. A few drivers, such as my GPU driver must be reistalled (I assume this because these drivers were not on my HP's bootcat.cache?).

So besides some missing/inactive drivers I have full function of my PC. BUT WHEN I REBOOT THE PROBLEM COMES BACK AND I B.S. AGAIN. So I performed my fix again and booted to my desktop once more. I have now started backing up my files in preparation an imminent clean install (I am willing to try ANYTHING to avoid this!). While files are backing up I am saving Application and System event logs. (PM me for the logs). Running and screen-shotting CPU-Z and posting this thread.

I do not know what I should try now that I am back at my desktop. ANY help at all will make my day.

Recency my HP laptop was going super slow and so I decided to use my recovery discs I had to reinstall Windows 7.

I was running a dual boot with Windows 7 and Ubuntu. Im not too tech savy and not entirely sure on how I managed to get this set up (lol). But I did. Basically when I started my computer I could use my arrow key to select a startup in Ubuntu or Windows 7.

So I restarted my computer and set the BIOS to boot from disc so I could run my reformat discs (That I made legally when i first got my laptop a year ago)

Reformated and 30 minutes later at the end of the installation it informed it had failed. I restarted my PC and got this error

"BOOTMGR is missing
press ctrl+alt+del to restart"

I did this and it keeps bringing me back to this screen.

Ive read many posts that said it has something to do with disc partions and what not, but none of the fixes are workable considering when I try to enter BIOs (F1) it just shows me my system info, then I press "escp" to continue and it takes me back to the error screen.

I come back to you after some time away in a happy place where tech support is never needed, once again humbly requesting your expertise.

When my laptop hinge busted, I salvaged the HDD and decided to mount it in my next desktop build and use it until I bought another HDD to sell it with. This drive was partitioned with a dual boot of Win7pro64 and Backtrack 5r1 64, both were pretty well maintained, no foreseeable issues with swapping the drive, right?

Well, we seem to be having some technical difficulty, on both fronts. As this is sevenforums, Ill restrict this to my Windows 7 issues, but for any bilingual folks out there that are interested, I'm posting the other half of the dilemma on linuxquestions, sparing them the windows part of it lol. Ill add a link to it once its up.

Okay so here is the hardware setup I am working with.

Asus M5A97 mobo, amd970/sb950 chipset, is rated to support all components
AMD FX-8120 CPU Black Edition
16 GB G-Skill Sniper pc3-12800 ram
XFX nVidia GeForce 6800GT 256MB GDDR3 (I can hear your snickering )
Raidmax 630w PSU
Samsung Supermulti Optical
WD Scorpio Black Laptop SATA HDD

Everything listed is brand new, purchased online, save for the HDD of course. The video card was purchased used at the local computer shop, last-minute.

So just let me explain the nvidia card real fast I planned this build assuming my old HD3870 would work just fine, but it went out on me almost right away. I had it hookup up to a coby tv with a 1366x768 resolution, which is what the nvidia card is powering now as well, via DVI-I output to a DVI to HDMI adapter, then through an HDMI-HDMI cable to the tv, same as the HD3870 was (in case any of that proves relevant). My original intention was to leave this setup open for crossfire if I found another 3800 series. I should note that while the HD 3870 was working, I had booted it up alright and gotten to the boot animation for Windows 7 once. It then proceeded to reboot, after which my video card was toast and I could not get a successful POST. Now that the card is changed, here is what I am experiencing.

When I boot up, I get a POST beep, I go into the BIOS, everything is looking tip top. I select the HDD, everythings still going fine. Since I am running a dual-boot configuration, GRUB is my boot manager. I select the Windows 7 Boot Loader, and I have the option to run startup repair or try to boot normally. I tried the startup repair a few times. The first time it said attempting repairs, then said it would reboot and either boot successfully or continue startup repair. It does not boot up fine, in fact, I get a BSOD. I try the startup repair again, only for it to tell me the problem couldnt be fixed automatically. Well it gives me two options, to either view advanced details in a log file of some sort, or to log in to a user account to run some diagnostic utilities.

The log shows no errors of any kind - I went through each instance of startup repair and they were all negative for each category. There was one "root cause" listed for each attemp which said that 'a recent hardware change' may have caused this to happen. I was told by my college professor who holds an advanced certification for Windows 7 that you could swap a Windows HDD to another computer, and all that would happen is most hardware would default to Windows generic drivers, and you would have some short window of time to reactivate Windows within, due to some sort of built in anti-piracy feature throwing up red flags at the substantial hardware change. Have I been ill-informed, or do I have bigger problems than that?

I logged into my administrative account and the options provided are as follows: Startup Repair, System Restore, System Image Recovery, Windows Memory Diagnostic, and the Command Prompt.
Startup Repair just fails and loops me back, System Restore can't find any restore points (very odd), and System Image Recovery is unusable for me since I never made a backup image. I ran the memory diagnostic as well as chkdsk /f, as advised, and neither found any errors. Selecting the Commant Prompt option, my working directiory is x:windowssystem32. I can switch over to c:, and I can access all of my files, personal, applications, and system alike, which appear to be intact (much of this I have verified via examination from my Backtrack/Linux partition).

Well, I've taken the Windows 7 course, and I don't want to screw around with finding the perpetrator behind my misfortune if I don't have to - I'll just do a side by side install, throw everything on c: into the "Windows.Old" folder, and get the ball rolling on re-crafting my setup, followed by some housecleaning. I have my original product key, all I have to do is pop in that install disc, right? Save the day? I could not have been more wrong.

I actually get a blue screen error while booting from the install disc. This is burnt with an iso obtained from MSDNAA, a legitimate copy of Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, the SP1 Debug Rollup. It's what I used to install the Windows 7 that is currently failing that I'd used for well over a year, and the Windows 7 on another machine I'd built. The serial is registered to me and it was all free through my college. When I did my second install, upon activation I asked if I would need to request a new serial since this one had been used, and was told NO, that my serial is MSDNAA specific, usable as many times as I'd like for academic purposes. You cannot even retrieve these from the system using means that would otherwise produce the correct key - it will come back as five sets of five B's. These are the only two times it has been used and this most definitely does not count as a third since it is the same OS, HDD, owner, serial, and disc even.

Circling back to the BSOD, the interesting thing to me is that the exact same blue screen error comes up while booting my Windwos partition as while attempting to boot from CD to reinstall. Is that significant? I know the terminology sort of clumps them all into the same category, but surely there is a correlation, no? I thought perhaps I was going crazy, and Windows had set some bit switch on the HDD that says "Help, I'm supposed to be in a laptop!" but this does not explain the CD.

I have tried to boot into safe mode, have tried Automatic System Recovery (which im given to understand is the same as Startup Repair), but no cigar. ASR behaves as startup repair did and safe mode = bsod. I have attached a picture of the error screen for reference. I have a copy of Ultimate Boot CD for Windows on my USB drive, but there is a plethora of utils and I dont know how to use most of them. If there is a specific tool that could remedy the issue or shed some light on the situation, I can certainly collect info and report back.

It's a very strange situation I am stuck on since yesterday.

When I turned on my laptop yesterday, that windows did not load properly and came up with Blue Screen of death with this 'Unmountable Boot Volume' error.

After tons of research online, I found so many different tricks to get it working but no luck so far.

I can't boot my laptop at all, I get to the Windows Recovery Page which gives me 2 options:

1. Launch Startup Repair (Recommended) >> This doesn't work, comes up with the windows 7 background with a cursor and stays there for ever, no dialogue box or anything.
2. Start Windows Normally. >> This keeps me putting into the blue screen of death loop.

So, I then inserted the Win 7 DVD to boot windows from there and perform Start-Up Repair. >> That's doesn't seems to be working either.

I have also performed the chkdsk, chkdsk /r, chkdsk /f /r, but NO luck at all. Tried bootrec /fixboot, bootrec /fixmbr. But that did not helped either.

I am not sure what has caused this problem, but it is just doing my nut in now. I got 2 partitions on my HDD, 1 with Operating System with some data under my user profile and 1 partition with all my data.

I am wondering if there's anyway I can get round of this situation and get it fixed, if not then If I did a clean install then WILL I LOSE BOTH THE PARTITIONS or the one with just the operating system on it? Plus, if it's just the operating system partition which will be lost, then anyway to get my personal data out from there?

i had to reinstall my windows 7 64x dell inspiron 1750 laptop using my windws 7 home premium disc that came with my laptop when i bought it because it was in a constant starup repair loop. the disc worked find until i got to the part where it said "expanding windows files." it was stuck at 0% after a whilr and then a message popped up that said error code:0x8007045D. during the time when it was expanding windows files i could hear my disc running, but after a while it stops.when i tried running the disc again, the error code message didn't pop up, but the expanding windows files was stuck at 0% forever. when i tried turning on my computer without using the disc, it goes directly from the "finding window files" screen to startup repair. it tells me that it can't fix the problem and i click on a link that tells me that the problem is that my boot configuration is corrupt. i have also ried cleaning my disc and it doesn't look like there's any stratches on it. i'm at school and the only way i can access anything now is through my phone's wifi. any help is appreciated!

Since none of the PCs for which I am responsible has "Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System", a Point Of Sale application, installed, I thought I might as well update them.

So far I have installed SP3 on 19 work and home PCs and laptops, which has taken between 11 minutes (for the newest Dell Optiplex 330) and 62 minutes (for an ancient just-about Pentium IV PC with 256 MB of RAM) from start-of-install to receiving the machine back usably after the reboot. No problems were experienced, except that the Windows Scripting Host command prompt window which appears during the post-reboot startup occasionally displayed well over a dozen identical error messages in rapid succession, rather than the single word "Done" which appeared on the other PCs, before terminating, apparently normally. (In fact you get two command prompt windows, but I've never seen anything displayed in the second one.)

Thankfully, I encountered no instance of the snappily-titled Windows XP SP3 BSoD Endless Reboot Loop with Stop c0000139 on GDI32.dll Error.

This information is just to give some idea of how long the SP3 installation process might take on your PC when SP3 again becomes available, once Microsoft has put a check in that your PC isn't running the above POS application!
