Hi

I need help, I recently upgraded to windows 7 ultimate x86 from Vista x86 version, everything worked fine, I installed the lastest drivers to my Nvdia 8500GT from the nvdia driver download page, everything ran fast and smooth until I tried some games, I tried counterstrike cs, I tried Crysis, I tried gtaIV, they worked but omg it laged so much I couldn't play any of them. this is both offline games and online games.

They worked fine in Vista, no problems what so ever, I don't want to go back to Vista cuz I love windows 7 but I don't understand why I cant play any games First I tried the x64 edition No it didn' work, tried the x86 edition, no it didn't work either.

I have a intel core 2duo 2.66ghz
3gb ram
Nvdia 8500gt 512 mb

Windows 7 isn't slow it's WAY faster then vista, startup, response time but it's just the games that SUCKS! microsoft has ****ed something up ( sorry for my bad language but I know other ppl are having the same problems)

I have a Toshiba NB205 Net-book

Windows 7- starter edition 32-bit

1GB of ram. Intel Atom @ 1.66GHz 1.67GHz

I have come to realize that windows 7- STARTER EDITION is one of the worst OS out there. Its like a trial edition. you cant even change the desktop background. its so bad that if you live in the U.S you cant buy you can only get it if you buy a Net-Book computer.

I want to upgrade to Windows 7- Premium, ultimate or downgrade to vista as long as i get rid off this thing.

My Problem is that i have no CD/DVD ROM. I already have a Vista DVD But i dont have a Flash/Thumb Drive large enough to install with. I dont know what to do. Is there a way i can do this FREE of charge.

Thanks

I finally got Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit upgrade to do a custom install from Windows Vista 32-bit. I was one of the ones that got that DVD/CD message every time. I'm not going to go into a bunch of detail, but this is all I did:

Get WinToFlash do what it tells you, takes about a minute.

See, I couldn't create a bootable USB flash drive of the Win7Upgrade/64bit disk in the 32-bit environment in the normal way, but WinToFlash is able to do it. So I got past that DVD/CD drive hindrance and didnt have to get a new drive as Ive seen many others actually do...thats just wrong. MS has a problem tho, they let this slip by and a lot of people are going to give up. No friggin way anyone should have to install Windows 7 in this way. Im just glad I got the 64-bit now and I gotta say, Windows 7 is actually worth the hassle.

Don't let anyone tell you you cant install the Windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade 64-bit disk via custom install if you have Vista 32-bit. That is something I read many times from "experts".

Hi, I have been using the Release Candidate of Windows 7 for a bit now and recently wanted to reinstall an overcrowded Vista which is on the C:.

Heres the Rundown before I continue:

Before Windows 7:

3 Partitions: 1) A Recovery Partition 2) C: - Vista - 32-Bit 3) D: - Data

After:

4 Partitions: 1) A Recovery Partition 2) C: - Vista - 32-Bit 3) D: - Data 4) E: Windows 7 - 32-Bit

Then I decided my Vista was overcrowded and a waste of space so I put in a Vista Ultimate 64-Bit (64-Bit because a mate said it would work and Im planning on upgrading to 4GB RAM from 2GB soon). After Install I dont get the Boot Selection Menu with the previous setup and Windows 7 is apparently non-existant. I have downloaded a Boot-US and I cant detect anything.

So here it is:

Partition 1: Recovery Drive
Partition 2: C: - Windows Vista Ultimate 64-Bit (2GB RAM)
Partition 3: D: - Data Drive
Partition 4: E: - Windows 7 32-Bit

No other OS is being detected from Ultimate.

Please Help...

Thanks in Advance

Hey all, I've signed up because my W7 is beeing a pain..
I had vista on my laptop installed when i got it, then when windows 7 came out my mom gave me her W7 upgrade, eveything was fine untill yesterday. I changed some settings in BF:BC2 beta (game) and it ran a lot smoother so I was happy, then suddenly my laptop froze up, and I was like .. k well no problem, I'll just reboot. So I hold the power button and and started it back up, nothing, not even a loading screen. So I kept rebooting and rebooting and rebooting, after like 1 - 2hours it gave me a message that windows was unable to start windows 7 and if I wanted to repair or if i wanted to start normally. I chose repair and it was fine again, I started the game since I thought well it fixed it so I can just play it normally, wrong.... it froze again and now about 24 hours later my laptop hasn't given me the message, is there ANY way to trigger this? I've triede putting the windows 7 upgrade CD (home premium) but it doesn't load, I've tried the ultimate upgrade cd that i got from school but also doesn't work..... I can't enter the bios it's jut a blank screen :/.

Can ANYONE pleeeeaaaase help me... thx

Hi, i've been having random bsod's lately and need help
While i play games, surf the internet and do pretty much anything these bsods will just appear. It started about a week ago.
The BSOD's im getting are 0x00000f4 and 0x000000a.

Im running windows 7 ultimate
intel i7 870 (not overclocked)
Asus engt 240
Team DDR3 1333 6 GB
Cooler Master HAF 922
Acer Monitor (cant see the model number anywhere)
Samsung 1 TB HDD
Samsung 1.5 TB HDD
Applications which i have running in the background usually are daemon tools, kaspersky pure, garena, skype, razer lycosa (driver thingy), razer naga (driver thingy) and nvidia control panel.

Kaspersky pure recently had a database error so i thought it was causing it so i upgraded kaspersky pure to the latest version which is kaspersky 2.0.

Please help me

hi im new to the fourm, im running

windows 7 ultimate 32bit
AMD opteron processer 146 (this got 3.9 system rating)
149.0 GB Harddrive (this got 5.7 system rating)
Asus EN9500GT 1GB Graphics card (this got 6.2 system rating)
1.00 GB Ram (this got 4.5 system rating)
asus a8v-vm se motherboard

and i cant seem to get the frame rate right on games, example colin mcrae 05 the graphics are crap!! and the fsp jumps like a frog when you go round corners, i have the drivers set up for the graphics card and so on, aero is enabled so i cant get my head round it! is there any programs out there that can clean up the fps to be faster or auto tune my pc for the grpahics side of things or does my pc need upgrading anywhere?

many thanks Damon

So i play CA (Combat arms, a first person shooter) at around 30-50 frames per second.
sometimes with tweaks i can get to around 43-57 consistent frames per second.
I CAN PROVIDE MORE INFO IF YOU ASK.
--------------------------------------------------------------
3 Incidents:THE MAIN TOPIC OF THIS PROBLEM
On three different computer i have had One moment of insane and godly frames per second around 300-400frames per second

-First time was on my macbook(Dual core 2.6ish GHz /Nvidia, 256 dedicated RAM/ 4GB RAM/)
I installed bootcamp and after a year or so of consistent lagging around 60 frames per second i was lagging in combat arms more , so i reinstalled my Nvidia graphics driver
After i reinstalled i was able to play CA On full graphics Anti-asling x8 anisotropy x8
overall settings high, and still run at around 200+ frames per second
On CA, fallout 3 new vegas, and some others.
As soon as i restarted my laptop it was back to same old laggy 50-60 frames per second.

-On a Metal laptop I had (for like 3 months before i discovered that buzzing feeling was the comp shocking me for those months)I was playing and randomly one night it started running at insane frames per second, i dont remember too much but it was fallout 3 on low then, full graphics.

And most recent on my current AMD quad core:
I was playing laggy games around 20-30 frames per second with lots of freezes.
I reinstalled my graphics drivers and instantly my games were running full graphics and the insane 200-300 frames per second.
Now currently I am running at 30-50 frames per second with rarely any freezes.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MY current laptop: CA 25-55 frames per second
Gateway - Windows 7 home premium 64 BIT
AMD Quadcore 1.5Ghz A8-3500m
4GB RAM DDR3, I did have 6GB but i gave 2GB to my Brother, it only caused me to be at current lower -10 frames per second.
640GB HardDrive space
AMD 6620G, 512 dedicated ram.
1366 x 768 and my VGA Display 1360 x 768.

Macbook/bootcamp:CA 30-80 frames per second
Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit
dual core 2.6ish GHz
256 dedicated RAM
6GB RAM
250HD space
Gamebooster report has more info

Programs & settings I use
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
- I sometimes use Gamebooster which gives me +5-10fps
- I also have been trying recently the
windows media player booster program with no signs of fps gain.
- I have fully updated windows 7
- I just now reinstalled my graphics driver with no improvement.
- I reinstalled CA alot and do gain too around consistent 50-65 frames per second frames per second for like 3 days.
-I used overdrive for month and it hurt my comp
It did not boost me and it caused my games to jitter and screech, it also caused my laptop to have other erratic problems
(I even set it to run at just over 100% CPU and had same effects)
I run on the lowest graphics on CA and AMD AMD is set to no v-sync, no antiasling, no anisotropy no triple buffer, and such with 30-50 frames still.
- I have tried in lower resolution screens with only small 10 frames per second.
- I have defragged.

Ideas
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
-On the macbook and this AMD quad core i had been playing for over 10 hours
one person told me it takes times for the comp to heat up and then it will run faster
(Problem is I play around 14 hours per day, and it does get faster but only up to around +10 frames and MUCH faster loading speeds)
If this is true, then how could i implement this and keep my comp in correct temperature.
(I have a fan and when i rarely have used it I think it slows my comp down)

-MY CPUs on this quad core never go above 25%
my GPU according to system monitor Gets maxed out during current CA gameplay
Maybe i can somehow get my comp to use my CPUs instead of my GPU?

-I heard the having 3D vision installed on the Nvidia computers sometimes lags people up so i made sure to disable featues like that when i reinstalled, but im not sure if i disabled anything, maybe you know of some feature i should disable.

I think it was prob some feature/setting not being installed with my drivers.
or some setting put in by windows the the AMD/Nvidia driver messed with.
(maybe reinstalling cleared a cache that lags me)

Why it cant be some things.
----------------------------------------------------------------
-I was not running game booster or any program like that.
-I was not running on low graphics i was running on max, after i saw that i was running so fast on low graphics, in attempt to sea how much it could handle.
I had no overdrive.
-I did no hardware changes at all within at least 1-2 months of the 3 incidents.
(probably longer like 1 year)
-I have reinstalled my windows 7 comp and instantly installed CA and then played it with only consistent 50-60 frames.
-Its not CA because i have tried reinstalling and then not installing CA and still ran slow on fallout 3, and even Runescape.
-I have played on no page file, and on 7GB page file
-I have tried turning off themes, running gamebooster, defragging. and it is pretty smooth but still a measly 43-60 frames per second.
-I was playing On 1280 X 800 res during incident.
I defragment.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Current game speeds
AMD
Skyrim 30-40frames per second
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
None of the weak fixes are what im after im after those moments of pure..........insanity...
Where i had 300-400 frames per second.
but maybe a weak fix will be all i need to tide it over.

I got 10 headshots in a row easily on CA where 10 headshots in a row is as rare as winning lottery.

I dont want to post this and watch it get ignored like most forums.

I know its possible because it happened to me three times, and on this AMD laptop.

I dont think this is a gaming topic because its about graphics, not a specific game.

It also effected the rest of my system at least a little, that i could load games and such faster.

This is unrelated to this problem but im thinking about buying a 8GB RAM stick for my laptop i just want to know how much would that help. My teacher said that upgrading the ram will speed up my computer ALOT. (RAM is Cheap and yet expensive, I need a cheap 8GB high quality stick, newegg.com said $45 and at Freys instore it was like $25ish, but its like 100miles away now)

I have my CISCO IT essentials so i can easily handle windows tasks and i already have used MANY different tweaks of Regitry, and other system tweaks.

On Nov. 25 I decided I thought Windows 8 was interesting and pretty enough to give a try. I downloaded and ran Microsoft's upgrade advisor tool and, initially, there was a bios setting that needed to be changed. I changed that setting and the only issues that were warned against was that my Microsoft Office was too old. (Office 2003) and a couple of open source apps either didn't work or needed to be reinstalled. No big deal.

From this tool I was given the option of purchasing, downloading, and installing Windows 8 Professional for $39.95 -- after taxes it was $43.79. The only payment option available was via PayPal through a place called Arvato Digital Services in Valencia, CA. Once PayPal did its thing the software downloaded and installed.

Once installed, I asked Windows to update and after almost 2hrs it told me the update failed. In the event log there were a couple of messages about the failure, some DLL's and some error codes. After a couple attempts at this with failures taking as much as 5 hours -- the whole time my computer being unusable -- I contacted Microsoft Support.

A support technician asked some questions and asked to use my computer remotely. I agreed. This was an informal arrngement and there were no terms or conditions specified by the tech or Microsoft. During the course of this process she looked at things like the computer properties and device manager, she attempted an update of 1 update and that worked. She did not look at the event log and she did not read any of the error codes. She fiddled with drivers and ultimately after almost 4hrs across two different sessions on different days, she uninstalled my video driver, installed a couple of 3rd party packages to which I didn't agree to the licensing (she did that on my behalf without asking) and determined that my computer was suitable to run Windows 8 but that there were issues with my video card and that updates had to be manually done, one at a time, and, that I had to live with random explorer crashes.

I wasn't terribly happy but I figured I could live with that. After we concluded our session I had some reason or another to reboot and found that, upon boot up, my computer was now in 800x600 VGA mode -- on a 21" screen. The tech uninstalled my video driver. If she had told me that I would have told her that was completely unacceptable. A week later the system started crashing randomly with messages such as "The system cannot continue and must restart".

I called Microsoft and asked for a refund on Dec. 8. I was told that I needed to visit a site, enter my order number and sign an electronic letter of destruction which I did.

On Dec. 18 I received an e-mail telling me my refund had been processed. Not terribly surprisingly there was no refund in my PayPal account nor on my debit card.

On Dec. 21 I called Microsoft and they insistently told me that the refund was made and that I had to wait for the next billing cycle. I informed them there was no billing cycle for PayPal and they suggested I call PayPal.

PayPal took some time to research the issue and told me that there was nothing pending from Microsoft or Arvato Digital Services.

I called Microsoft and was told that there must be an issue with their system and they would have to escalate it as a priority issue. This would take 3-5 business days, or, in other words, potentially until Jan 2 -- of next year. I told them that didn't much sound like a priority and asked to speak to a supervisor. I explained my level of frustration and the unethical and, in my mind, questionable actions of the support person who didn't really help much and the fact that I now have no Windows OS because I cannot find a legal copy of Vista to which I have a license, to then install Windows 7 for which I have an upgrade license. He offered to give me sell me an activation key for Windows 8 that would not expire and all I had to do was make yet another charge that would be refunded. I told him that while I would like the key as a concession that I would not make another payment to be refunded at some unknown time. He told me he would transfer me to someone who could give me said key without a purchase and gave me a number to use in case I was disconnected. I was transferred to a bad number and disconnected and the number I called had no clue what I was talking about but was apologetic none the less.

I did ask about how to get around the upgrade installation issue and be able to install from scratch window 7 and the support guy said you cant and when I explained the only way to do that would be to find a pirate copy of vista to install first and then upgrade from there he agreed that was my only option. I was actually told by a representative of Microsoft to pirate their software.

All in all Microsoft has been exceedingly polite in telling me they understand my frustrations and are exceedingly polite in telling me to go to hell.

As far as Avarto Digital Services goes, they have no contact information in their website which is not accessable directly from the PayPal recceipt as it is mispelled. The only information I have for them is an email address that at this time has yet to respond to inquiries.

So to recap, I was lured and fooled into upgrading a perfectly good system with software that did not do a good job of reporting its abilities, paid for software that did not work and was told by its manufacturerer that it is "good enough" only to find problems down the road. When asked for a refund I was told I had one without ever receiving any money and that their priority service leaves me waiting 26 calendar days for a resolution.
