I think my basic question is: how do I update an Adobe Flash Player ActiveX version?
---
I have Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit. I use Firefox 12.0. I check my Firefox plug-ins daily. Shockwave Flash is now at version 11.2.202.235. My Microsoft updates are fully up-to-date.

I have Internet Explorer 9, 64-bit and 32-bit. I don't use IE, and can't remember a last time I had to use it.

When I do need to update "Shockwave Flash," the action button takes me to get.adobe.com/flashplayer/. That page shows "Your system: Windows 64-bit, English, Firefox." It further states "Note: The 64-bit Flash Player installer includes both a 32-bit and 64-bit version of Flash Player."

The last update download file was #.adobe.install_flashplayer11x64_mssd_aih(v11.2.20 2.235).exe. (I prehend #.adobe. and insert the version number in parentheses. It works, and that way I know what it is.)
---
Looking at the Control Panel recently, I noticed "Flash Player (32-bit)." Maybe it's been there all along, but I don't recall seeing it before. (And note the 32-bit in parentheses on a 64-bit system.) Clicking on it opens "Flash Player Settings Manager." Click on the Advanced tab and midway down I find:

ActiveX Version: 11.1.102.63
Plug-in Version: 11.2.202.235
---
How do I update the ActiveX version? Is this the right question? Is Internet Explorer somehow involved?

Thanks.

Here's a really neat FF extension I just came across:

CLEO is a Firefox extension that works with FEBE to package any number of extensions/themes into a single, installable .xpi file.

Why? Consider this: I, as an extension developer, have several different Firefox profiles. Whenever I start a new extension, I create a new profile for testing, debugging, etc. In this profile, I like to have a dozen or so developer related extensions installed. With CLEO, I can packaged all these extensions together into a single, installable xpi.

You may have a list of your favorite extensions/themes that you would like to share with others. With CLEO, you can gather them all together into a single file (called, perhaps, "My favorite extensions.xpi") and post them on a webpage. Others can install the whole batch with a just a couple of clicks!

http://customsoftwareconsult.com/ext...cleo/cleo.htmlHere's another good resource for FF extensions:
http://www.quickonlinetips.com/archives/20...-power-surfing/

With over 1000 extensions available for FF, maybe we should have a separate sub-forum here?

This is a list of the extensions, themes and plug-in's I currently have installed:

Strange behavior for last 10 days. Flash movies will not play any more on web sites and when I right click an image Windows tries to download it as a bmp file only!
I've tried to reinstall Flash from the Macromedia site and the site just sits there with no download occuring.

Microsoft support gave me the following advice and none of it works. Can you help?
(I apologize for pasting all of the below, but thought you might want to read the thread)
___________________

As I understand, when you used the Save Picture As option for a graphic file in Internet Explorer, you were only allowed to save the file as an Untitled.BMP file. We shall be working together through the course of this request to resolve this specific issue for you. If I have misunderstood your concerns, please feel free to let me know.

Based on my research, this issue may occur if your Temporary Internet pages cache is full, or it may be caused by some downloaded program files. To resolve this issue, try the following steps:

1. Open Internet Explorer, click Tools->Internet Options->General->Delete Files.

2. Click Ok to delete all the temporary Internet files.

3. Click Settings in the General pane; a window will open listing all the downloaded program files.

4. First try to remove any of these that have a status of "Unknown" or "Damaged".

5. If that doesn't work, remove other downloaded program files.
________

For Flash problems Microsoft suggest the following:

Dear Steve,

Thank you for your prompt update. I am sorry to hear that you could not complete our previous action plan due to the IE issue. According to my research, I believe it is best if we fix the IE issue first:

First, let's register the file urlmon.dll again:

Click Start Run, in the open line type this command and press Enter: regsvr32 urlmon.dll

If the problem still occurs, please try these steps:

Step 1: please uninstall and reinstall Internet Explorer.

1. Click Start and select Run.
2. Type command in the Open box and click OK.
3. In the MS-DOS prompt window, type the following command (exactly, do not even add a space) and press Enter:

rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 c:windowsinfie.inf

Note: I suppose the ie.inf file is stored in the c:windowsinf folder. The command is case sensitive. The "DefaultInstall" parameter is alterative.

4. After the re-installation, please restart the computer and check if the program is installed.

Step 2: If the problem remain, please reinstall VB Script and Java VM.

1. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/.../scripting.asp
2. Download and install Scr55en.exe
3. Reboot the computer.
4. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/java/vm/dl_vm40.htm
5. Download and install VM Build 3802 for Windows 2000.
6. Reboot the computer and check if the problem still occurs.

Step 3: If the problem continues, let us try to perform a clean boot. This tool will help us identify any drivers or programs that may be interfering with the normal operation of your computer.

1. Click Start > Run, in the open line type in: msconfig
2. Choose Selective Startup and remove the check before "Load
startup group items"
3. Apply the change and reboot the system.
4. Check if the problem still occurs.

Please complete all the steps above and let me know how everything is going. I am standing by for your progress.

Have a nice day!

Johnny,

Thank you for the attempt. I tried both methods and neither made a difference. It won't even download the software from the Macromedia site!

I have also discovered that a right-click "save as" on a picture from a web site is malfunctioning. The system tries to save it as "untitled.bmp". It no longer recognizes the original file name or extension.

Very odd and very frustrating.

Could they be related?

Based on my experience, most likely, the problem is caused by urlmon.dll is not registered correctly. Please register this file again.

Click Start Run, in the open line type this command and press Enter: regsvr32 urlmon.dll

If the problem still occurs, please try these steps:

Step 1: Please check the Internet Explorer the settings.

1. Open Internet Explorer and go to Tools > Internet Options.
2. On the General tab, delete the temporary files and cookies.
3. On the Security tab, set the Internet Zone security level to
Medium.
4. Apply the changes.

Step 2: Download and reinstall Macromedia Flash Palyer from Macromedia website. For your convenience, I have included the link as below:

HI: I have a older Dell Laptop which I want to only use offline, for pictures and personal information etc.
I just wanted to ask before I do begin using it offline if I can uninstall non essential programs like Flash,Shockwave,my NIS (License expiring soon) and some of the other programs I have on it.Being that I will not use it online anymore,I will not be updating every monthly Tuesday the M$ updates. I just wanted to ask is there anything that I should leave on or take off that I have not mentioned above.Thank you in advance.

Has anyone sussed out yet why Chrome keeps telling me that Shockwave Flash has failed and then won't show videos? And what can be done to put it right? Other threads on the web seem to be just as puzzled as I am. Thanks in advance.

Win XP - Print stopped working when client tried to print from a YouTube Video(!) Tried clearing print spooler using this method:

Control Panel>Admin Tools>Services
Scroll down to Print Spooler, right click, and stop
C:WINDOWSSystem32spoolPRINTERS
Delete all files in this folder
Return to Print Spooler Service and start

Two files keep reappearing: Shockwave Flash Object & SHD File
I've tried everything to get rid of these 2 files in the spoolPRINTERS folder. Deleted (more than once); emptied recycle bin; restarted computer; checked folder -- files are gone -- and then as soon as I try to print they reappear.

HELP!

Hi everyone,

I suspect that we already know the answer, but would be nice to have it confirmed. We have a situation. A Server (ML110) with Server 2008 standard has 32 workstations in an ICT suite for a local school. There are group policies involved to restrict users from installing or deleting items etc. The 32 workstations have windows 7 professional installed. All are on a domain.

The problem: We were told that some websites didn't work properly and notices that it was Flash, Java or Shockwave that needed installing on 'some' not all. So, our apprentice Dan, reinstalled Flash on all the failing machines. It happened again a week later, but not all the same machines. He did it again. Each time, installing them using the admin account. We cannot continue anymore with the fire fighting..

Deployment:
I created 3 PC's (vostro 200, 230 and 260) units and built the perfect build. I cloned an image which was then used to deploy the units to each of the machines. This is where I think the problem lies.

A: the machines were not sysprepped and therfore carry the same license and system ID through out.
B: Activation was required for each PC where a volume license would be different.

Solution?
I think the lack of sysprep and the same system ID is causing the problem. Therefore a licensing issue. Our plan is to create the new images with a volume academic license and use the Windows Deployment Service having sysprepped the image correctly.

Is this likely to resolve the problem?
Has anyone seen flash remove itself before?

One problem I'm having on Win-8/64 that I'm not having on Win-8/32 is that after I've installed Firefox and then Shockwave and Flash, my browsers are almost catatonic, UN-responsive and in some cases (I.E.) just lock up.

So far, I've determined that UN-installing Shockwave and Flash does improve the situation, but does not cure it 100%.

So if UN-Installing things does not completely fix things, then the only thing left to do is reinstall Win-8, test the browsers and then install one program at a time, testing the browsers after each install to see what program mucks them up.

I'm on Win-8/64 right now and using Firefox. It does work much better now, that I UN-installed both Shockwave and Flash.
I.E. is still in a coma!

I'll be back,
Doc

I have the RC build 7100 installed. Intially the beta was fast on the IE connection and then it got worse. When I went to the RC version it was lightening quick, but then slowed down, too. I reinstalled the RC twice and the third time, I watched what I installed, to determine if it was apps causing the problem. I only have the typical software installed...Adobe Flash Player, Shockwave, etc., Java, Microsoft Office 2007, I am using Kaspersky's beta for W7 as my AV.

Browser connection time was 3 seconds and a new tab was instantaneous. Now a new connection is 7 seconds and about the same for a new tab. I have a 10 Mb ISP service. When I use my Windows XP OS on my other HDD, I get a 3 sec new connection and an instantaneous new tab. Obviously, I have a problem with W7 that doesn't exist in Win XP.

Has anyone had a similiar experience? Any helpfull feedback?

Thanks in advance,
rounder

I'm short on the tech savvy, so please be patient with me.

A day ago, while using my netbook (Asus Eee 1001p) to look at videos on YouTube, the Shockwave Flash plugin became unresponsive. Shortly after this, my PC froze. Ctrl-Alt-Del wasn't helping, so I opted to perform a manual shutdown. Since then, my computer has been unable to start.

Here are the things I've tried thus far:

Launch Startup Repair

Windows Memory Diagnostics
Scan seems to be running fine, but no test results appear on restart. Only the Windows Error Recovery thing.

I'm not really familiar with the Command Prompt option, so I haven't tried anything with that yet. So tell me guys...what could be the cause of this problem, and what can I do to fix it?

I get a bluescreen saying something about restarting a graphics driver and then the computer restarts itself, didn't get a screenie yet!

The driver I'm using is the latest for my graphics card, and did work fine until:

My laptop's screen died
I uninstalled the Nvidia drivers in safemode (probably stupid) using an external monitor
Tried different drivers (XP, Vista, Win 7 and those of the manufacturer) in compability mode with different external monitors
But none would detect my external monitor(s)/projector... heck I even coded an inf
So right now I've coded a bat file to change the Nvidia control panel settings
And am mostly ineffectivly playing around with it since it doesnt seem to work for me. Since I can't see it's really hard to tell whats going on during a normal startup.

When I reinstall the latest drivers I recently found that after leaving the computer be for 3-4 min, a blue screen appears.

This is the dump: (aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh **** this, I can't use your add attachment thingy without shockwave flash/graphics drivers. I'll add the dump later!)

Any ideas?

Worth noting is that with the latest drivers installed, which most likely causes this BSOD the monitor is ON as in, it not saying "No signal", it's plain black.

In the mean time: Is it possible to somehow force windows to use a higher resolution than 640x480, 16 colours btw? Without graphics adapter drivers? Can you make a "fake" driver?

I've tried posting on some forums but have yet to get a decent response from anyone, so I'm getting kind of fed up with this Windows 7 crap. Sorry if it shines through.

Am using:
Windows 7, latest updates and all
GeForce Go 7600 (ohh and I know the Go 7 series are not supported, and its totally irrelevant since it did work fine before, using the reference driver)

Hi I saw a similar post for a person having a similar problem:

http://windows7forums.com/windows-7-...bccode-d1.html

I just upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate x32 this past weekend and have been tweaking several drivers. My main issues that I have isolated so far have been my Linksys WUSB54G v4 wireless that I downloaded the direct Ralink driver for to get to work. Everything has gone smoothly but I have had to disable Shockwave Flash (i.e. MySpace music players, YouTube, etc.) since those have caused Blue Screen of Death several times. However I Just had another one while doing home office work without flash sites running...any suggestions????

I've uploaded a ZIP of my last few Minidump files. Also see my profile for my system specs.

FYI I was running:
*Microsoft Outlook Professional 2003
*iTunes
*Firefox (w/Drupal editing on 1 tab)
*IE 8
*VPN connection
*Nividia dual monitors Attached Files andrew.thomas266_d1.zip (182.8 KB, 122 views) Share Share this post on Digg Del.icio.us Technorati Twitter

One of the first things I do when I do a fresh install, is to turn off UAC as it irritates me with the pop-ups constantly. I haven't been infected with a virus since Windows XP though, so I think I got a hold of it all.

Interesting read anyways, thanks for posting it

I'm not sure if anyone else has had this issue, but I've recorded a quick video of the issue.

I'm running in Windows 7 x64 Build 7600, and using Firefox 3.5.3.

http://rockdown.net/win7bug.mpg
Basically, if you can't see the video - My firefox is breaking. I'm unsure of what the culprit is, but just recently (unsure of exact date,) whenever I opened firefox my address bar and search engine bar was completely disabled. I've tried reinstalling (clean reinstall, deleting all profile data etc-) and I can't find a fix. Whenever I run into this issue, sometimes all I need to do is open a bookmark to get the search bar and address bar to work again, but sometimes I need to restart/log off to fix this issue. I've tried not only completely reinstalling Firefox, but creating new profiles in the slight chance that my computer was just trying to piss me off.

Nothing though. Anyone else have this issue/know someone who has and has fixed it?

Guys, I've been having some extremely weird problems with my Windows 7 Home Premium PC. It's brand new, bought in the beginning of the year. There's 4 problems. Main one comes first:
Today, while I was watching You Tube videos, got a blue screen twice. But not the 'blue screen of death', that blue color you get when you start Windows 7, light blue gradient. The computer responded to nothing. After a while, that screen went off but the CPU was still on. I rebooted it, came back to the website and same thing again. I rebooted it again without going to those websites of before. Here I am, posting these problems only.
The computer, in the last weeks, also had a problem twice in which, when you put it to turn off, it finishes the process, but the CPU's still on and won't turn off by itself at no way. Usually happens when you use the Power button on the keyboard. With the Start Menu option, it's okay.
I use an LG monitor that is actually a TV. It often has a problem in which it changes the screen resolution by itself, always after I leave it in standby mode for a long while. Therefore, I have Intel TV wizard installed, with all possible updated drivers to see if that stopped, but it keeps going on so far. I went to W7 troubleshooting and one of the problems there was with 'TVWizard2ft', does it have anything to do with that?
And 2 days ago the computer had the craziest of all problems. Avast had its license expired (even though it was due 2011), I couldn't uninstall it even with Revo Uninstaller. Computer's date was changed to 2099. All websites I went to on Firefox and IE said it wasn't a safe connection, so I couldn't browse anywhere. I fixed it manually and rebooted, so it's fine now.
On Windows problems log it doesn't seem to have anything to do with this, except for an issue of 01/12/10 (old, but seems to be important), check out the log (i tried to attach all logs in this post but errors happened):

There was a point in which only the computer background would show and wouldn't get out of there for nothing, didn't respond to any command. I left it there for a long while, cause it could be a ComboFix's process, but it never stopped. I promise to try again later.

Hello, first of all im sorry if im gonna make Vocabulary/Grammar mistake, my English isnt the best.
Here is my problem: about two months ago, i used to watch alot of videos and tv shows online, and everything went great, videos loaded good , buffring was great, etc..
now i wanted to watch an episode of a show i missed on TV , so i went on Putlocker and when i clicked play, it just kept doing this moving circle that means its loading. It kept doing this until i just gave up. (BTW this was on chrome)
After chrome didnt work i tried firefox, exact same problem.
I've tried the same episode on the website Movpod and exact same problem on both firefox and chrome, kept trying to load and fail...
Now i reinstalled flash flayer, shockwave flash, etc.. nothing.
I tried same thing with diffrent episodes and diffrent shows , same problem.
Here is something that i hope will help solve this problem:
1. youtube videos loaded and worked perfectly, both 5 mins ones and 2hrs ones..
2. i remember like a month and a half ago , after i stopped watching online , It kept said " Shockwave flash crashed" so i got an answer where i got into somewhere with a list of alot of things and i disabled something in shockwave flash that fixed the crashing problem but i never tried to watch online videos since then so idk if this help but i dont know how to enable that thing again.
3. I tried all the things on the sticky that we should try before posting, and nothing helped.
I hope you can help me and sorry for my bad English again
thank you so much
,ohad

Hey guys . So in the past i used to watch tons of videos from putlocker/sockshare/movpod/gorillavid , but then i stopped. Now i wanted to start again, but none of these websites let me play the videos. All the other sites(like youtube) do let me watch the videos. Gaming work perfectly fine so flash is good . i also tried to reinstall flash and all of these but nothing.
addtional information: im using chrome but same problem in firfox and explorer. In chrome I turned off shockwave flash plugin since it kept crashing, but i dont think the problem is in the browser because all the other browsers doesnt work either.
thanks for the help, ohad.

Welcome
to nginx! error on SOME webpages

Welcome to
nginx!

Occassionally getting the above error to sites like Yahoo
Mail, Trendsource.com, a few other sites. Seems to be an intermittent problem.
Occurred shortly after downloaded some programs from cnet.com/download.com which
I later learned has some malware attached to those files. SHAME ON CNET.COM!
What should I do next?

I didnt notice anything bad other than 1 unnamed
toolbar.
